The Workers Are Few

“The he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.’ Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” – Matthew 9:37-38 

In eleven days, we’ll be having a youth camp. Last week, a sister advised us to reflect on the Scriptures to prepare ourselves for our spiritual battle.

I was reading Matthew 9:35 where it said, “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.”, when it dawned on me, in eleven days, in a way, this will be us: teaching, preaching the good news, and healing.

Technically, we won’t have to go through towns and villages, but yes, we have invited them. We won’t be healing every disease and sickness, but perhaps through experiencing God’s love during the youth camp, they will be healed mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Reading that verse, my heart went into hyperventilation mode. I’m comfortable and used to talking about God with other Christians. It’s the unknown of who and what’s to come that scares me a bit. 

It wasn’t until I read the next verses that I calmed down and sighed in relief, “Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few’. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Right. Whew.

Matthew 7:7, one of my favorite verses constantly gives me comfort, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

We are the workers of God, ‘the harvest’ - our participants are quite a number and increasing. We may be few in numbers, but if we ask God, the Lord of the harvest, He will give us what we need for “Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite” (Psalms 147:5).

Our battle is coming and we must be ready. Sure, there would be times when we would be stepping out of our comfort zone. But remember, no distance was too great for God because He was compelled by love. And He wants us to share His love to others, which is why I’m starting small by sharing a reflection.

A brother always reminds me this and I think I should share this to you guys too: You are loved, fearless, beautiful, brave, strong and most of all, worth it.
