It’s a bumpy road and it helps to have a place to remind myself of my faith, to share and to have company.

Jesus built a movement on lepers, prostitutes and tax collectors. He can work with what you’ve got, and straighten you out in the process, but you have to be willing to stand before Him, sins and all, and say: ‘I don’t know why you’d want me, but if that’s what you’re asking for, here I am.’”

- Unka Glen (via jspark3000)

Still

It isn’t always easy
I am restless
Something is always missing

So I wait
Enter the silence,
hear what He has to say

Do you have eyes but fail to see?
Ears but fail to hear?
Don’t you remember?

Bravery doesn’t always roar
doesn’t always shout
Sometimes, courage is silent

So, I see
Philippians 4:13 doesn’t mean nothing is impossible
but that you can handle victory and defeat
And still remain victorious

Remember?
Stay still, He says
The Lord wil fight for us
You only need to be still

Look at the love that anchors you
That has broken & fixed you

Even when the world is all kinds of wrong & unfaithful,
He is faithful

So here I am
Being still
My heart rejoices
Drenching myself in His plans & love

And I am radiant,
my face no longer with shame
Because He said, child,
You are loved.

thebridgechicago:

1) Listen. (Mark 10:46-52) Jesus didn’t go around telling people what they should be doing. He let people come to Him, and He listened to what they were saying and what they wanted. And He knew what they needed, but He still took the time to listen to people.

2) Don’t pressure (Mark 10: 17-27, Luke 9:23) Jesus was very clear with people about what it meant to follow Him, but He always left the decision up to them. He didn’t use pressure tactics or try to sell people.

3) Love people who the world doesn’t value. (Matthew 9:10-13) Jesus hung out with lepers, tax collectors, prostitutes, and all kinds of people that society shunned. He never worried that the socially acceptable people would think less of Him because of this.

4) Pray for them. (John 17:6-26) It’s the most cliche Christian thing to say, but actually praying for someone is a big thing. You have the ear of the infinite and almighty God, and you are taking the time to talk about this person, that is an act of love. Ask for the Lord to intervene with them directly and also for wisdom in how you can help them.

5) Don’t judge. (John 4:1-26) Jesus didn’t let people’s past mistakes disqualify them. He actually spent a lot of time telling people that they were not their mistakes and He believed in them.

Ask Us A Question

The easy way to have a huge ministry impact

unkaglen:

Anonymous asked: Hi Unka Glen, my church youth group is going on a mission to Christian youths in the barren small towns of UAE, Middle East, and in September, we’ll be going to other parts of the Middle East. They asked me to give a few talks, and I’m honored and really excited, but most of all, I’m scared. Speaking’s not really my forte. Would appreciate some tips. Thank you! :)

Unka Glen answered: Dang girl, the United Arab Emirates? If you’re ever in Chicago, the milkshakes are on me. Working with Chicago gang members might sound pretty tough to you, but believe me, I’ve got mad respect for what you’ll be doing.

As for tips, I’ve got a great one on this, and you’re gonna love it. When it comes to any kind of missions, there are two big things you want to accomplish, the first is to listen to the people, get a sense of their struggles, see the obstacles in the path of their forward spiritual progress, and speak to those obstacles, hopefully breaking them down.

That’s a bit much to ask of you on a short-term missions trip.

The other big thing you want to accomplish in missions is encouragement and exhortation. In my operation, I make it clear, I can preach to these people, sort them out, help them see the way forward, and handle all the technical and theological aspects of moving them forward, but without the encouragement of their brothers and sisters, it’s not going to do much good.

Encouragement and exhortation are pretty simple to express, hard to mess up, and the effectiveness you can add to the existing ministries on the ground is truly substantial. So leave the fancy stuff to the professionals, and focus on encouragement and exhortation. You can be the kind of vital encouragement that gives people what they need to take it to the next level.

So what might be encouraging to them? Well, maybe they have family pressure to not become Christian. So you tell them that they have family all over the world, and we’ve got your back, and we love you, and we’re praying for your earthly family, that you would find favor with them, and that they would be drawn closer to the Lord.

Maybe they’re dealing with persecution from the local government. Encourage them that the early church had to meet in secret too, but that great things came out of those hard times, and that you expect that they will gain a strength others only dare to dream of, and that they are becoming the kind of Christians that are respected the world over.

Break the strongholds that say they should be ashamed of their chains, and put the crown of glory on their heads.

And that leads us to exhortation. The goal of exhortation is to call people to their higher selves. To show them that they are FAR stronger than they think they are, and that they can keep going. They may be weary from their struggles, and they may be near the end of their strength, but they’re nowhere near the end of God’s strength.

Exhortation is about coming alongside others and saying, “c’mon and give this one more try. I’m right here with you, let’s lift it together.” It’s about telling people they’ve got the enemy trembling. It’s about telling them to look at their troubles and and say, “mountain, get out of my way!”

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for God is faithful to fulfill His promises. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another…” Hebrews 10:23-25a

Thank you for this! I’m just going to keep that here. :)

"In the long term, where do you see yourself?

Christianity is not a belief system. Christianity is how I got rescued from being lost in...

unkaglen:

Christianity is not a belief system.
Christianity is how I got rescued from being lost in darkness for all eternity.
Christianity is how I was sought by God, ransomed, and freed.
Christianity means I owe God everything. And more. So I’ve given Him myself.

Christianity is not a religion.
Rules and rituals had nothing to do with my rescue.
I was ransomed by the blood of the only Son of God Himself.
Rules and rituals did not save me, and they can’t keep me saved.

Christianity is what I do.
In ancient days, sometimes when a slave was freed, he decided to stay with his master anyway.
That slave would press his ear to the doorpost and his master would pierce his ear.
This would tell the world: I am free, but I choose to serve.

Pierce my ear, oh God.
Let me dwell in your house, and show you my thanks.
This is what a Christian is.
It’s not just something I chose to believe in, it’s the life I live in my Master’s house.

You Are Loved

thunderpopcola:

By: David Bonifacio

I don’t care what anyone says, how you feel about yourself, or how far you are from the popular ideal, I love you. No ifs, meaning no conditions. No buts, meaning no considerations. Just an appreciation for who you are, just a desire to show my affection, just an announcement that you have arrested my attention.

In a world that says, “I love you” today then forgets what it means tomorrow, I want you to know that my love will be patient, and kind, will not boast, will not be proud, nor be rude, nor seek my own benefit, nor be easily angered, nor keep a record of wrongs. You will shine as my love illuminates the dark areas of your life.

In a world that says, “I promise” then goes and breaks their honor, I want you to know that my love will not fail you. You can depend on me - but you need to wait for me, in other words trust.

In a world that says, “I believe in you” then betrays you to believe in other promises, other reports, and other fears, my love will keep you safe - even from yourself. I will always give you another chance. I will always hope for the best. I will never give up.

You’re afraid because you’re from that broken world of cheap love, unkept promises, and betrayed trust. You’re afraid my love will fail you, and you don’t want to get hurt once more.

You’re most afraid because you know that you are not just from that world, you were once of that world. You have loved cheap things, given your heart to attractions of no value. You have broken your promises, leaving a trail of failed expectations. You have stopped believing that true love exists for you, you have started to doubt. You are afraid that you don’t deserve my love.

My love will not fail you. In my love are the privileges of the beloved. Because I love you, you are most beautiful. Because I love you, you are most special. Because I love you, you can depend on me. Because I love you, you are irreplaceable. Because I love you, I will never let you go.

Because I love you, I will not force myself on you. You are free, even free to not choose me.

And yet, my love will not condemn you. It is freely given and it is freely kept. You did not earn it and cannot un-earn it. It is a gift. You captivated me at your worst, so surely I will stay to enjoy the sunrise you bring.

In your freedom, do not be proud. In your fear, do not run away. In your guilt, do not hide. In your pain, do not harden your heart. Instead, give me the pieces of your broken heart, let me keep it safe for you.

And here, take mine, it’s yours if you’ll have it.

“Why?” you ask?

Because you are my beloved. This is who you are.

Lord, I ask that you bless whoever is reading this. I may not know their needs but You, Lord, do. Comfort those who are sad, strengthen those who are weak, draw near to those who feel lonely, restore those who are broken. Most importantly, love them Lord, love them like only You can. Amen.

Truth is, you’re already taken

Always asking for somebody
Always searching for a sign
Looking in hallways, in bars and pubs everywhere
For that perfect and beautiful smile

Always singing a love song
Always wanting a story of cosmic proportions

But the truth is you’re already taken
by a love that doesn’t leave you forsaken

A love that’s true and deep and always complete
A love that searches the ditches to find you and to keep
A love that leads you to paradise
And destroys all the lies
A love that keeps you alive
A love that covers the skies

And the truth is you’re already taken
by a love that doesn’t leave you forsaken
You’re taken

I was reading Matthew 9:35 where it said, “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.”, when it dawned on me, in eleven days, in a way, this will be us: teaching, preaching the good news, and healing.

Technically, we won’t have to go through towns and villages, but yes, we have invited them. We won’t be healing every disease and sickness, but perhaps through experiencing God’s love during the youth camp, they will be healed mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Reading that verse, my heart went into hyperventilation mode. I’m comfortable and used to talking about God with other Christians. It’s the unknown of who and what’s to come that scares me a bit.

It wasn’t until I read the next verses that I calmed down and sighed in relief, “Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few’. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Right. Whew.

Matthew 7:7, one of my favorite verses constantly gives me comfort, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

We are the workers of God, ‘the harvest’ - our participants are quite a number and increasing. We may be few in numbers, but if we ask God, the Lord of the harvest, He will give us what we need for “Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite” (Psalms 147:5).

Our battle is coming and we must be ready. Sure, there would be times when we would be stepping out of our comfort zone. But remember, no distance was too great for God because He was compelled by love. And He wants us to share His love to others, which is why I’m starting small by sharing a reflection.

A brother always reminds me this and I think I should share this to you guys too: You are loved, fearless, beautiful, brave, strong and most of all, worth it.

Let’s get ready to carry that love and share it. :)

Photo

be-the-change:

For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”

- 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ♥ (via thunderpopcola)
